Myrtle Beach, South Carolina is the grandaddy of the golf getaways, with more than 30 years of dedicated winter foursomes and "guy getaways" in the rear view mirror. A decade of consolidation in a down economy has trimmed some courses from its ranks, but Myrtle still has a wide and varied collection of tracks -- and fall deals to match. Mystical Golf's Gold and Silver packages are some of the best. On a three-day, three-night Gold trip in the month of November, you can play four rounds on any of three top-rated courses -- The Witch, The Wizard and Man O'War -- stay course-side in a three-bedroom golf villa and get your meals covered, all for a starting price of $106 per person per night, depending on dates. You even get two beers a day as you play. If you're interested in making your own plans for breakfast and dinner, the Silver package includes all of the above except breakfast and lunch, and starts at $96 per player per night.

There are few alligator haunts eerier than the blackwater wetlands at The Witch. Gators on the par-4 second hole can be hard to see from the tee, but often await at a pond that guards the right side of the fairway. Birds of prey such as Hawks and owls and other types of wildlife also inhabit this untamed golf course playground. But the sinister-looking gators that lurk early in the round help set a dangerous tone.

Here are my picks for the five best golf courses in Myrtle Beach South Carolina. This was a tough choice, because there are more than 120 public golf courses and luxury resorts in Myrtle Beach, including the amazing stretch of coastline the is the Grand Strand, some 90 miles of South Carolina's Intracoastal Waterway one of nature's natural wonders: wetlands, marshes, sandy beaches, and quiet, secluded coves, lakes and marshland. unbelievable seafood, historic tours, unique shops, cruises, two ocean side state parks, deep sea and inshore fishing, and amazing golf courses. The Man O'War Golf Course is a uniquely exciting challenge, a fair playing field where course architect, Dan Maples, delved deeply into the dark world of the imagination to create an astonishing layout of intertwining holes that call into play a diversity of skills and provide even the advanced player with a thousand opportunities to think, and then think again.

So in honor of the Grand Strand's infinite ways to plan an ideal trip, we're not going to give you just one opinion on the best in Myrtle Beach, but four: Matt Ginella, Jason Scott Deegan, Mike Bailey and myself all have spent plenty of time here, whacking the ball around on fairways from Pawleys Island to Calabash, and stopping off at a few bars and restaurants along the way. BEST COURSE FOR THE MONEY - Bailey: I give it to the three Mystical Golf courses: The Witch, The Wizard and Man O' War. All three are very different, usually in very good shape, very memorable and have reasonable green fees.
